http://www.contemporaryistanbul.com/#bodrumartacademyIn its 8th edition Contemporary Istanbul gave a start to “Bodrum Contemporary Art Campus (BCAC)”, an artist residency project taking place in Bodrum Yahşi. This project is also the first “art campus/artist residency” project in the world initiated by an art fair organization. BCAC of which Prof. Dr. Hasan Bülent Kahraman is the academic coordinator, provides the local and foreign young contemporary artists the opportunity of education and creation for 12 months in coordination with international universities and institutions.
Started in August 2013, the project’s first artists included,Engin Konuklu; Dokuz Eylül Fine Arts Institute,Görkem Ergün; Kadir Has University Department of Design, Serkan Çalışkan; Marmara University Fine Arts Institute, Department of Painting, Kıvılcım Harika Seydim; Marmara University Fine Arts Institute Department of Painting, Ahmet Sarı; Anadolu University Fine Arts Faculty Department of Printing Arts, Duygu Sabancılar; Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University Social Sciences Institute Painting Program, Ayfer Karabıyık; Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University Social Sciences Institute Department of Painting.
Realized with a 2 million dollars investment, BCAC invites worldwide known contemporary artists to Bodrum where more than 100 young artists will have the opportunity to take part in 6 to 8 weeks long workshops, academic conferences and panel discussions all year long.
The project was launched on the 1oth, August with a special party where the 30th anniversary of Siyah-Beyaz 10 Gallery had also been celebrated with the participation of many known artists, collectors, curators, academicians, business people as well as members of the press.
Established on 5 decares of land the campus includes a bar, a pool and an 8 apart unities with open-air and closed working spaces and an amphitheater, aims young Turkish, European and American artists create art all together. 16 artist can all receive training simultaneously. The participants’ equipment, material, accommodation and transport fees are paid by BCAC. Designed by the architect Murat Artu as a center for art creation BCAC will also be Bodrum’s foremost tourism and promotion center.
